Las Navas are deforested plains between mountains, for agricultural and livestock purposes, San Pedro is one of the few still inhabited, which will allow us to enjoy the hospitality and refreshment necessary in the heart of the Sierra de Cazorla.

We will start our route along the main track, towards the Forest House of the Fuente del Acero 8 km away. Once we have left La Nava, our path will begin to ascend giving views of the Guadalentín Valley and leaving on the right the path by which we will later leave (La Trinchera). If the day allows it, we will be able to see Sierra Nevada in the province of Granada. In this area of our itinerary the vegetation alternates so that we can observe a splendid Mediterranean forest of gall oaks, holm oaks and hawthorns mixed with laricio pine forests under which lavender and pastures grow.

When we have traveled about 6 km, it is worth stopping and leaning to the left to contemplate an impressive cliff under which runs a stream of abundant flow, we will be in the Strait of Los Perales. Just 400 m from the Fuente del Acero Forest Hut, we will leave the main path and take the detour to the right, here we will find a chain that prevents the passage of motor vehicles, as we enter a restricted area.

The steep slope that there is, as well as the pronounced curves, make us recommend taking precautions and not forgetting to enjoy the most beautiful places of the Natural Park, La Loma del Caballo de Acero, La Majada de las Carrascas and one of our destinations: The Barranco del Guadalentín. At 10.50 km from the start, at the bottom of the ravine, we will leave a detour to the left to continue along the bed of the Guadalentín River (12.5 km). We will descend 2 km, crossing the river twice and once we have left its course we will find that the track becomes impassable for about 300 m due to landslides.

It is advisable to pass this section on foot. We will soon find a fork where a sign indicates that we are on private property, a circumstance that will make us take extreme care and respect. The left will be our path next to a metal fence that leads to 17.5 km from the start, on the track that on the left passing through the Vado de las Carretas (on the Guadalentín River) leads to the Puntal de Ana María, and on the right it will take us up to La Trinchera 20.5 km from the start, where we will take the left to reach our starting point in 1 km more: La Nava de San Pedro. We will have traveled 21.5 km.

We place our starting point at the Forestal de la Nava de San Pedro hut.
