Pozo Alcón is located in the south of the Natural Park of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas, between two landscapes that combine the greenery of the mountains with the dryness of the lowlands that border Granada. Agriculture is the main activity, highlighting the cultivation of olive trees, herbaceous plants and almond trees. Livestock is also an important activity, dominated by sheep (Segureño lamb) and poultry farming. The poor communications with Jaén mean that this town is more linked to Baza (Granada) than to other towns in the province. The town, which until the eighteenth century belonged to Quesada, is the owner of a valuable and careful popular architecture. It is the only one of the villages in the Natural Park that has not lost a census of inhabitants since the creation of the Park. The municipality has managed to preserve old monuments such as the church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación and the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Its hamlet shows a deep respect for traditional architecture, especially in the upper neighborhoods that surround the church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación. Tourism is consolidating itself as an activity of the future in the area called "Sierra del Pozo", where there are numerous places of great environmental value and exceptional landscapes. Near the village is the beautiful spot of the Bolera reservoir. All this allows the enjoyment of numerous and varied activities ranging from extreme sports, to hiking, sport fishing, observation of fauna and flora and astronomical observation.

History

About its origins, the first written reference we have to this town dates from 1331, in which reference is made to "Pocuelo" within the limits of the municipality of Cazorla, but apparently without any population. After the end of the Reconquest of Granada, there was a progressive colonization of that area known as "El Pozo de Campo Cuenca"
